Terms and Conditions - Best Chip Shop Competition 2011

By participating in The Chip Group Best Chip Shop Competition you agree to the following terms and conditions.

Promoting good practice is the aim of the competition.

Trade

  1. The promotion is known as: The Chip Group™ Best Chip shop Competition 2011.
  2. The Competition is executed on behalf of "The Chip Group™", a collaborative industry venture involving: The Heart Foundation, Bakel's Edible Oils (NZ) Limited, McCain Foods (NZ) Limited, Mr Chips Limited, Groenz Ltd, Potatoes New Zealand (an affiliated Product Group of Horticulture NZ), Food & Beverage Today, Catering Plus and That's Life
  3. The 6 regions are: (1) Northland to Auckland's North Shore; (2) Rest of Auckland; (3) Waikato to Wanganui/Hawkes Bay; (4) Manawatu toWellington; (5) Nelson/ Marlborough to Christchurch and; (6) Timaru to Southland.
  4. All participants must be a paid up member of The Chip Group™.
  5. Registration of shops must be on the official The Chip Group™ Annual Membership form.
  6. Check you are entered - during the period June 1 until June 30th , the official website, www.thechipgroup.co.nz, will list all shops that are registered along with their shop code.
  7. The consumer voting stage of the Competition runs from July 1st 2011 until July 31st 2011 inclusive.
  8. Customer voting is by text message. One vote per mobile phone number, per shop, will be accepted. Votes can only be registered during the consumer voting period as per above in 6.
  9. Shops may wish to self promote in order to gain more votes, this is allowed.
  10. Up to three shops in each region will be determined by a combination of consumer text voting, chip analysis and mystery judging. These will be announced as Regional Finalists.
  11. Regional Finalists must agree to making up to TEN portions of chips (or meal equivalents) available for media purposes.
  12. All eighteen Regional Finalists will be further Mystery Judged to select, six Regional Winners, one of which will be named the Grand National winner.
  13. Mystery judging can take place on any transaction, at any time during the period July 1st 2011 to August 28th 2011, and will be undertaken by officers or appointees of The Chip Group™.
  14. Mystery judging criteria will include: display of The Chip Group™ Certificate, chip taste, chip quality, chip fat content (by laboratory analysis), adherence to Industry Standards (Tips for Better Chips), shop cleanliness and consumer service.
  15. The laboratory analysis associated with any of the judging criteria and scores will not be published.
  16. In case of a query, please contact The Chip Group™.
  17. Prizes for each of the eighteen Regional Finalists will be:
    • a framed certificate for their shop
    • inclusion in article in That's Life magazine (read by 297,000 consumer readers – value $320)
    • inclusion in article in Food & Beverage magazine (read by 24,000 trade readers – value $200)
    • 2 month subscription to That's Life magazine (value $26)
    • plus local publicity if the competition and results are picked up by local news media.
  18. Prizes for each of the six Regional Winners will be:
    • a plaque for their shop
    • a footpath sign
    • a set of three of The Chip Group™ aprons and caps branded 'Proud to be a member of The Chip Group™'.
    • sponsors product prizes to the value of $160
    • 12 month subscription to That's Life magazine (value $155)
    • 12 month subscription to Food & Beverage magazine (value $100)
    • inclusion in article in That's Life magazine (read by 297,000 consumer readers – value $320)
    • inclusion in article in Food & Beverage magazine (read by 24,000 trade readers – value $200)
    • plus local publicity if the competition and results are picked up by local news media.
  19. Prizes for the Grand National Winner will be a plaque for their shop, sponsors' product prizes comprising:
    • a plaque for their shop
    • a footpath sign
    • sponsors' product prizes to the value of $1700
    • major editorial feature in That's Life magazine (value $2,875)
    • major editorial feature in Food & Beverage as well as on website and newsletter. (value $2,800)
    • plus publicity if the competition and results are picked up by local/national news media.
  20. Winning shops may not advertise the brand of cooking oil/tallow or chip type they use in association with their winning status without The Chip Group's™ permission.
  21. shops entered may use any cooking oil, tallow or chip during the Competition but The Chip Group™ recommends outlets should follow the guidelines as set in the Industry Standards
  22. The winning shops cannot make any reference to The National Heart Foundation of New Zealand in their shops, except as contained in official Competition point of sale and awards provided to the shops by or on behalf of The Chip Group™.
  23. The judges' decision is final.
  24. No correspondence will be entered into.

CONSUMER:

  1. The promotion is: The Chip GroupTM Best Chip Shop Competition 2011.
  2. Consumer votes are by text, by texting the registration number of the shop for which they wish to vote to short code 3399
  3. Each text vote costs 20 cents.
  4. Only one vote per mobile phone number per shop will be permitted.
  5. Votes will only be registered, if they are received between July 1st - July 31st 2011 inclusive.
  6. Each valid vote will automatically enter the user of the mobile phone (provided that person is legally authorised to use that mobile phone for such purpose) into a draw to win a Choice Mobile 2degrees phone and deal and one of 50 That's Life! one month magazine subscription.
  7. The winner of the Choice Mobile 2degrees phone deal will be notified by text in August and must reply within two weeks of that notification being sent or there will be a redraw. If the prize is still unclaimed at the end of the two week period, then the process will be repeated in 2 weekly intervals until a winner is identified.
  8. The prize can be uplifted by the winner, by private arrangement with a Chip Group representative. The prize cannot be exchanged for cash.
